Guitarist Donald DiCrescenzo, a great player and one of Europe's leading session players, was brought in to add some slide guitar parts for the first track, and he sounds great. Knopfler's own guitar playing is top class, as is his effortless transition from the slide guitar to the electric, and he plays some great licks. But again, this one is a little like Gravy Train - which I like, but doesn't sound like a Top 10 Knopfler song in my opinion.

The next track Hurry On Along is a country-rock ballad with Knopfler singing a great chorus over great guitar work. The opening solo over the chorus is just perfect and John Schwartzman sings a really good harmony below. This is a great song, and once again, I don't know what it is about these slide guitar songs that I just don't like. They are always a treat to listen to, but don't come out of nowhere, and in this case, this one did. You just didn't expect to hear this kind of song after you heard Hurry On Along, but I think it is great. It is always easy to become cynical about the 20th century and their achievements, but this is a good reminder of how far we have come as a people and how much we have progressed in the past 70 years, and the fact that the heads of nations, who at least should be aware of this, can't even imagine the positive changes we have gone through.
My personal favourite is the next track, No Hard Feelings. It is another country-tinged, track with a great chorus. The problem is, its kind of too good. I like to hear an occasional good, country song, but Knopfler is clearly on some kind of a strange high with this one, singing and playing in a dreamlike fashion, and his work here comes at the expense of his more personal lyrics. Some of his words are in Spanish, which is kind of weird, but it is also hard to blame him, since it seems like a good country song in itself.
